Exposure Therapy for Reactive Dogs
Exposure therapy for your reactive dog is where I pick them up and take them for a one on one, 2 hour long training and conditioning, explorative session. I tailor the whole session around what their needs are and work on building their trust and emotions toward the world around them.
We will go to public places that suit their reactivity level, and through training foundations, build an understanding of how to move and respond in social settings. Hopefully building their confidence and skills to feel less stressed in the world.
Sometimes this kind of training can be better done away from the home and owner, as often you may feed off of each other. Having a skilled trainer can help assess and interrupt the cycle, to put the dog in a better position for making new connections.
There is potential for social exposure with my dogs, once the dog has progressed.
If the dog has 8 sessions, I offer a discounted training consult to display and transfer the skills over to you, the handler. This is optional and I’m happy to continue working with the dog as much as you desire. Some reactive dogs can make great improvements and learn a better understanding of expectations out in public, but they may never be a social butterfly, and that’s okay! Often reactive dogs don’t suit standard group training or daycares, but owners still want their dog to have ongoing training and exercise. I am happy to do ongoing sessions to continue giving the dog good exposure, exercise and fulfilling life experiences.
I require a 30 minute meet and greet, prior to confirming Exposure Therapy bookings. This is so the dog feels comfortable with me and vise versa, to make sure we are a good fit. Also to get access instructions. Meet and greet cost is $40. If you have already had a private consult, the meet and greet isn’t necessary.
Price is $220 per session.
